Halloween is just around the corner, and our pumpkin gutter video has been live for two weeks. Have you given it a watch, yet?
What is a Pumpkin Gutter, you ask?
Let’s not reinvent the wheel—here’s what their product page says!
Very few people enjoy the feeling of pumpkin guts on their hands. The Pumpkin Gutter is the first pumpkin carving tool that uses power tools to clean out a pumpkin in just a few minutes, keeping your hands out of the slimy mess.
The shaft of the Pumpkin Gutter tool fits into any standard drill, just like a drill bit. The stainless-steel blades rotate to quickly and easily cut loose the strings and flesh from the inside of the pumpkin. The Pumpkin Gutter cuts the time to gut a pumpkin and thin the walls to less than half the time of traditional methods. This enables you to get to the part you love, the carving.
Our friends, Evan and Ganya Anderson, over at Gizmonics had a product they designed to gut pumpkins quickly.
It also solves the following unusual issues:
- What if you love using power tools, but couldn’t find a way to use them for gutting pumpkins?
- What if you have a neighborly competition to gut pumpkins, and you need to clean out an entire truckload of pumpkins right before Halloween?
- Or any of these fancy uses, like making a watermelon smoothie!
Producing an ad in time for Halloween can prove to be difficult.
You want the ad to look like fall, but it won’t always look like fall outside early enough to film. Either you have to get lucky with the weather, or you have to shoot an entire year in advance.
We didn’t want to leave the shoot to chance, and we didn’t have a year to wait.
Since the initial footwork on this short film actually began this summer, we were able to be clever about how we shot the ad, which depicts two houses on opposite sides of the street.
Our solution was to find two houses that looked similar, that also had trees with leaves that fall early, or that change their color early.
It wasn’t long before a short story was written, and after a few trips of scouting, we had our locations ready for use.
There was only one obstacle left to overcome—we wanted to use a lot of pumpkins in the ad, to show how easy it is to use the Pumpkin Gutter.
As it turns out, Evan and Ganya grew a ton of pumpkins this season that we were able to use, and Papa’s Pumpkin Patch in Bismarck was willing to lend us another whopping 30 pumpkins as props!
When it was time to film, we had over 70 pumpkins that we filled our small pickup truck with.
Threefold even held a party to carve the pumpkins for props! Over 30 pumpkins were carved, and we got to put the Pumpkin Gutter through a real-world test of how fast it would work to clean out pumpkins (it was fast).
Wow! That’s a lot of pumpkins.
